Open Season 2015 champion

  

Saint Tropez, France – Open Season is the 2015 series champion: winning three events out of four, the beautifully fast Wally 107 was convincingly crowned winner of the Wally Trophy.
The 2015 calendar included four events (Gaastra Palmavela, Menorca Maxi, Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and Les Voiles de Saint Tropez), and recorded the highest number of participants since the founding of the Division in 1999.
In a crescendo of entries, from the 9 in Gaastra Palmavela to the 12 in Menorca Maxi, the 13 in Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and up to the 15 in Les Voiles de Saint Tropez, the competition got tougher and tougher. In fact, the Wally Trophy is assigned using the high point scoring system, that rewards the results according to the number of participants: the highest the participation, the tougher the completion therefore the highest the score. The Wally with the highest number of points in each of the three different categories (overall, group 80, group 2) wins the relevant Wally Trophy, reserved to the yachts participating in at least three events of the official calendar.
This year the Wally Class welcomed three new competitors, all in the 80-foot size: Lyra, Nahita and Tilakkhana, and celebrated the 20th anniversary of Genie of the Lamp, the yacht that gave birth to this exclusive Wally club!
Since the first event Gaastra Palmavela, the much awaited Open Season showed impressive performance confirming the success of the technical refit carried out during the winter. Her relentless winning pace went on throughout out the first three regattas, and culminated in a crushing victory of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup.
During the season, she crossed the finish line ahead of the fleet in 19 races out of 23,  and totalled 208 points, the highest score of the seasonal ranking that bestows the Wally Trophy. Second classified overall is J One with 180 points and third, by one point only, is Magic Carpet Cubed with 179 points.
The winner of group 80 is J One, while the winner of group 2 is Ryokan 2.

The confirmed 2016 calendar includes the same four regattas of 2015: Gaastra Palmavela (May 4-8), Menorca Maxi (May 25-29), Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup (September 5-10), and Les Voiles de Saint Tropez (September 25-October 2).
